When you receive a new denture—full or partial, whether acrylic, chrome cobalt, or thermoplastic—it’s important to recognise that a settling‑in period is completely normal. Patience, perseverance, and timely adjustment appointments are essential for achieving comfort and success as quickly as possible.
Because dentures are made from rigid materials, they may occasionally rub against the soft tissues of your mouth, leading to irritation or soreness. During an adjustment appointment, we can’t directly feel what you’re experiencing, so wearing the denture beforehand (when comfortable to do so) helps us accurately identify the areas causing discomfort. This allows us to make precise refinements and provide meaningful relief.
If you’re experiencing soreness, adjusting your diet can help—choose softer foods and cut them into smaller pieces to reduce pressure on your gums. Leaving your dentures out overnight also gives your gums and muscles a chance to rest and recover.
